- 14 July 2006 - Kayak Trip from the Canoe Trail at Lake Siog
It was a comfortably warm and relatively mosquito free paddle along the canoe trail. We saw Great Blue Heron, Grackles, Red winged Blackbirds with their babies, Veery, Tree Swallow, Yellow Warblers feeding their babies, Eastern Kingbird, a large flock of Robins, Common Yellowthroat, Goldfinch, and Least Flycatcher.
We also had a great look at a rather large Snapping Turtle cruising along just below the surface. The turtle would occasionally put it's head above water for a look around. Thankfully he was not interested in munching on our boats! We also spotted an area with a bunch of opened clam shells, most likely left behind by the River Otter.

The flowers along the river were also in bloom. We saw Buttonbush, Pickerelweed, Swamp Milkweed, and Swamp Rose. The river was beginning to get weedy, but still had plenty of open space to paddle and the water was still pretty high. See ya next trip!
