- 29 July 2006 - Kayak Trip on the Quaboag River - Rt 148
The weather was supposed to be very warm today. Our trip began at 7:30 am at the boat landing across from Whites Landing. Despite what the weatherman predicted it was a sunny morning and there was a nice breeze keeping us cool.
We had good looks at a Bald Eagle, numerous Great Blue Herons, Eastern Kingbirds, and a Great Egret. We also saw or heard Warbling Vireo, Grackles, Red winged Blackbirds, Tree and Barn Swallow, Goldfinch, Turkey Vulture, Cedar Waxwing, Mallard, Blue Jay, Swamp Sparrow, Least Flycatcher, and Robin. We also had an Osprey calling on the pond.
We were surrounded by lots of blooming plants. Fragrant Water Lily, Yellow Pond Lily, Swamp Smartweed and Fanwort to name a few.
Our journey ended with a cup of coffee and a snack at Whites Landing. In all it was a perfect morning.
